Computer Password Security

Recommended Password Strength Password security strength is the effectiveness of a password in resisting guessing and brute-force attacks. Brute force attacks find it much easier to hack less than 8 characters.

The Recommended Password Strength: Minimum Length – 8 characters Passwords should use three of four of the following:

  1. Lowercase
  2. Uppercase
  3. Numbers
  4. Special characters such as !@#$%^&*

It is best practice not to include any words that are in the username and that are easy to guess. Research shows that a lot of passwords contain common words and numbers such as the persons name, love, hate and 123456.

Also it recommended not to leave your passwords and login information anywhere visible or accessible except to you. Many workplaces employ bad practices of displaying their usernames and passwords on the monitors, desks, notice boards etc. This is not recommended at all.
